To celebrate the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, Hofstra University decided to have their mascots, Kate and Willy, renew their vows. Here’s how I imagine that conversation went.Genius 1: How do we, a university on Long Island, capitalize on the royal wedding?Genius 2: Well, why don’t have a big viewing party for the wedding? We’ll serve an english breakfast in the dining hall and show the wedding in the student theater!G1: Sure, we could do that. But that’s not Hofstra enough. Plus, most of the students walking through the student center at 4 a.m. on a Friday morning are pretty drunk. It might not be a good idea to serve them a huge breakfast, and then put them in a carpeted area.G2: Hmm… good point. I bet Kate Hofstra would know what to do.G1: Yeah, I bet Kate and William Hofstra knew how to plan a classy party. With their lumber millions, mansion, and hordes of cats.G2: That’s it!G1: What?G2: Our mascots, two lions we call William and Kate, have the same names as the royal couple! Let’s have the two mascots renew their vows in a barely attended ceremony on campus! G1: But that’s asinine. G2: Exactly, that’s Hofstra University. It’s not like we’re going to make a video asking students to talk about the founders because they have the same first names. G1: You’re right. Let’s do the barely attended ceremony.
